Chris Borton, Founder, Keyboard and Vocals
Chris began her musical journey at the young age of 6 by taking piano lessons and singing in the church and school choirs. By age 10 she moved on to learning the cello along with continued piano and voice. By age 16 she was playing in the school orchestra, singing in a contemporary Christian singing group and performing in a 15 piece folk group. During the college years the cello and the symphony were her main focus. Now that Chris has finished raising her children she is able to return to her passion of music and is enjoying performing in several different musical ensembles. Chris realized the need for good quality trio-type vocal entertainment in the Sacramento area which compelled the founding of "Songbird" and Chris is enjoying the experience with Ken and Tony as she continues her musical journey.
Tony Rodriguez, Bass Guitar and Vocals
Tony's fondest memories are of his father and grandfather singing and passing the guitar around at family gatherings. At that moment he knew he wanted to be a part of music. Learning to strum a guitar to accompany his singing at an early age was an easy way to make friends and keep himself out of trouble. Tony says "when no one else is around my guitar is still my best friend." Tony has played in many groups throughout his life and especially enjoyed the professional band he was a part of for over 10 years. This band gave him the opportunity to pursue his two special gifts: songwriting and singing. Tony has proven time and again to be the "showman of the band." After retiring Tony realizes he now has the time to pursue his dreams of singing with friends at his leisure. He has been able to bring his vocal and instrumental talents to this band and partner with Chris and Ken to make the dream of "Songbird" become a reality.
Ken Koenig, Guitar, Mandolin and Vocals
Ken grew up playing rock music of the 60's and has been influenced by many groups like the Everly Bros. and the Beatles. At an early age he discovered he had the gift of writing music and since then has written and produced 3 albums of high quality Americana type songs. When "Songbird" members Chris and Tony heard Ken for the first time in a local coffee shop they knew they had to convince him to be a part of their group. You will be pleasantly surprised when you hear Ken's velvety smooth voice and beautiful guitar playing in this band!
